(MENAFN – The Peninsula) Doha: The Ministry of Culture and Sports announced yesterday the winners of the 8th edition of the State Award for Children’s Literature in a ceremony held online. The ceremony coincided with World Children’s Day, held on November 20 of every year.
Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali gave a speech to mark the occasion and said that the award managed to encourage the production of literature that satisfies the needs of children, saying that the level of participation in the award this year was the highest ever, reflecting the prominence of the event among Arab writers.
The Minister said that the award remains faithful to its goal of empowering good Arab writing, highlighting the importance of children’s literature, particularly at a time when social media is taking over every home.
The minister stressed that the current changes requires the diligent work on promoting and maintaining Arab and Islamic values in children’s literature so that the new generation remains proud of their heritage.
